inkBoat's Clouds from a Crumbling Giant: The Bardo

(PST, UTC-08) (PST, UTC-08)

Theatre of Yugen's NOHSpace, 2840 Mariposa Street, San Francisco, CA

Clouds from a Crumbling Giant is a community-engaged dance project that combines the traditional practices of Daoist internal arts with inkBoat’s theater and performance-devising practices, rooted in the Japanese avant-garde and traditional performing arts. The characters of Clouds transition through various identities and phases of life, donning and shedding each as clothing. Absurd and tender, they reach to connect, to cling, to let go. Clouds involves multi-generational, racially diverse, cross-disciplinary communities. Each collaborator brings a distinct perspective to the table, folding in a vibrant and essential layer to the growing life of the work. In particular, elders from the San Francisco Bay Area and the Hudson Valley of New York contribute insight into the relationship between health practices, the creative process, and the life cycle. Directed by Shinichi Iova-Koga, in collaboration with inkBoat and guests, Clouds will premiere in 2026.
